Established in 1953, the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department was formed ,at the height of the construction boom at the Savannah River Plant, as it was called then, to protect the citizens of the Town of Jackson. Started in a single bay station located on Charles St. , which also housed the Town hall and Police Department, JVFD has grown to cover a 25 square mile area of Aiken County, and we have since moved into a larger more modern facility located at 703 Burroughs St. JVFD now maintains a staff of approximately 40 volunteers, 20 firefighters, 10 auxilliary staff members, and 10 Junior Firefighters. JVFD operates two Engine companies, a Rescue/Truck company, and a rescue boat out of our station, we respond to a wide array of calls throughout the year, anything ranging from hazardous materials incidents, and fire responses, to emergency medical responses, motor vehicle crashes, and community service responses, we also provide automatic mutual aid for all structure fire responses to New Elenton FD, Beech Island FD, and Silver Bluff FD, and we hold a standing mutual aid agreement with Savannah River Site FD should a large scale emergency arise at SRS, or should JVFD require their assistance. Check out our response data page to take a look at a breakdown of our call volume.
